Optics Senior Product Manager

El Segundo, CA | FULL-TIME

Principal Responsibilities

As the Senior Product Manager, you will play a pivotal role in the development, management, and strategy of our optics portfolio. You will be responsible for leading cross-functional teams to deliver next-generation optical materials to protect both military and civilian personnel and counteract threats on satellites, aircraft, and ground vehicles.

This is a senior-level role that would benefit from a technical knowledge of optics and material solutions combined with a strong market insight and product strategy expertise in defense and commercial applications. You will be expected to stay ahead of relevant trends in the optics, defense and aerospace markets, providing leadership in the definition and execution of the product roadmap.

You will have proven success in translating technical innovations into scalable products and demonstrated exceptional ability to distill complex technical features into value-driven messaging for diverse stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Product Strategy & Roadmap:

  • Define and implement product strategies to address emerging optics needs in aerospace, defense and civilian applications, including solutions for eyewear and sensor protection.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive product roadmap, ensuring alignment with business goals and market demands.
  • Stay informed on market trends, regulatory changes, and competitive products to shape the product direction and identify new growth opportunities.

Cross-functional Leadership:

  • Lead cross-functional teams, including R&D, engineering, marketing, and manufacturing, to bring new products to market on time and within budget.
  • Work closely with the engineering team to ensure technical feasibility and performance of products, providing guidance and insights into optical design and material technologies.
  • Partner with sales and business development teams to understand customer requirements, gather feedback, and refine product features and specifications.

Customer & Market Insights:

  • Engage with defense and civilian stakeholders, customers, and industry experts to understand customer needs, pain points, and operational requirements.
  • Analyze market trends, customer feedback, and competitor offerings to identify opportunities for differentiation and innovation.

Product Lifecycle Management:

  • Oversee the entire product lifecycle from concept through development, production, and post-launch support.
  • Drive product performance monitoring, ensuring ongoing quality and compliance with military and defense industry standards.

Go-to-Market Execution:

  • Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to develop product messaging, positioning, and training materials that highlight the technical advantages of the products.
  • Lead product launches, ensuring a smooth transition from development to sales and delivery.

Risk Management & Compliance:

  • Ensure products meet all applicable regulatory, safety, and compliance standards in defense and aerospace applications.
  • Proactively identify and manage risks related to product development and market adoption.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or an advanced degree in a relevant engineering or scientific field such as optical engineering, physics, materials science, aerospace engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years industry experience in product management with a focus on optics, or related technologies in aerospace, defense, and commercial sectors.
  • Experience developing optical products and taking them to market. Experience with military, aerospace, defense or commercial fields in areas like protective eyewear, sensor protection, and directed energy protection are desired.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with the competitive landscape, customer needs, and product opportunities within defense and aerospace sectors.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to drive product strategy and influence cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical mindset, with proficiency in tools for market research, product analytics, or competitive intelligence.
  • Due to the nature of the work, you must have US citizenship
  • (Desired) Experience with military or defense contracts and government procurement processes and other aerospace procurement processes.
  • (Desired) Knowledge of electromagnetic spectrum and directed energy technologies.
  • (Desired) Experience in a customer-facing role, with the ability to collaborate directly with military and defense stakeholders.

Salary: $140,000-190,000
